Innovate BC Ignite Program

The Innovate BC Ignite Program provides funding for innovation projects in the areas of natural sciences, applied science and/or engineering. Applicants must be a B.C.-based team comprised of two or more companies, organizations, and academic researchers. NFRF Horizon 2020 Global Platform Competition, International Steam

Rhodes Scholarship

The Rhodes Scholarship, established in 1902, were designed to bring outstanding students from across the world to study at Oxford University in the interests of promoting international understanding and public service. Eleven Canadians are selected each year to join a class of 84 Scholars from across the world.? A Rhodes Scholarship is tenable at the University of Oxford with election to the Scholarship normally for two years depending on the degree program pursued by the scholar.

AMED - CIHR Research Collaboration on Advancing Epigenetic Technologies

Deadline: September 08, 2020

This funding opportunity will build on the respective research strengths of Canada and Japan through the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED) and CIHR, in basic science and technology as it relates to epigenetics and epigenomics.

Each jointly planned Canada-Japan project will receive a maximum award of $300,000 CAD from CIHR for the Canadian component of the team, plus 30 million JPY from AMED for the Japanese researchers over a three-year period (that is $100,000 CAD from CIHR plus 10 million JPY from AMED per year over three years).

BC Salmon and Restoration Fund

Deadline: September 08, 2020

The British Columbia Salmon Restoration and Innovation Fund is a contribution program funded jointly by the federal and provincial government. The fund will provide an investment of up to $142.85 million over 5 years (i.e. until March 31, 2024) to support BC’s fish and seafood sector, and to ensure the sustainability of wild Pacific salmon and other BC fish stocks

The fund supports protection and restoration activities for priority wild fish stocks, including salmon, as well as projects that will ensure the fish and seafood sector in BC is positioned for long term environmental and economic sustainability.?

NSERC - Plastics Science for a Cleaner Future

Deadline: September 24, 2020

Supports research that will increase scientific knowledge to achieve Canada’s zero plastic waste targets and to inform the advancement of policy and regulatory measures. This call focuses on research to detect and characterize plastics in the environment, and exposure and effects of plastics on wildlife and human health. This call is to fund multidisciplinary, collaborative networks of researchers to address the research objectives. This approach will help advance knowledge of standardized and harmonized methods and will support innovative, robust, and authoritative studies on plastic pollution.

McCall MacBain Scholarship

The McCall MacBain Scholarships at McGill are Canada's first leadership-driven scholarship for master's and professional degree students. They represent an investment in students who are developing expertise in their respective fields, have a track records of taking initiative, and seek to collaborate with other to understand and address important problems and challenges.?

The scholarship will cover your tuition and fees for a full-time master’s program or a second-entry professional undergraduate program (i.e. dentistry, law, or medicine) at McGill, starting in Fall 2021. It will also provide you with a living stipend of $2,000 per month.?

Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship

The Government of Canada launched the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) program in 2008 to strengthen Canada's ability to attract and retain world-class doctoral students and establish Canada as a global centre of excellence in research and higher learning. Vanier Scholars demonstrate leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies in the social sciences and/or humanities, natural sciences and/or engineering and health. Canadian and international students pursuing their first PhD are eligible to be nominated for a Vanier Scholarship, which is valued at $50,000 per year for up to three years.

Research in Technology Fellowship 2020

The Research in Technology Fellowship (RTF), co-sponsored by UNBC and?TeejLab?was established to provide Research and Development (R&D) opportunities to a UNBC student from all related disciplines interested in technology related research. The selected candidate will be involved in a combination of research activities and an internship to earn valuable experience while working with Research Engineers from?TeejLab.?One fellowship of $10,000?will be provided to the successful student for the period of June 2020 – April 2021 (can be negotiated depending on COVID-19 related issues). This competition is open to upper level UNBC undergraduate or graduate students who are interested in pursuing R&D in the areas of cybersecurity,?data privacy, security and integrity.

CGS - Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplement

The CGS-MSFSS Program supports high-calibre Canadian graduate students in building global linkages and international networks through the pursuit of exceptional research experiences at recognized universities in Canada. By accessing international scientific research and training, CGS-MSFSS recipients contribute to strengthening the potential for collaboration between Canadian universities and foreign institutions.?
The MSFSS covers costs associated with travel, living and other expenses, including accommodation, meals, tuition, insurance and other necessary costs unrelated to research during the research study period abroad.

Canada Graduate Scholarships - Doctoral

The Canada Graduate Scholarships - Doctoral (CGS D) program is a federal program of scholarships awarded through national competitions by the granting agencies: the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).
In addition to the CGS D, each agency has its own doctoral awards. The objective of the Canada Graduate Scholarships-Master’s (CGS M) Program is to help develop research skills and assist in the training of highly qualified personnel by supporting students who demonstrate a high standard of achievement in undergraduate and early graduate studies.

Convene grants help teams to articulate a research question and to develop a participatory research project plan that can then be submitted to funding organizations in the future.

Develop grants help teams to generate ideas for a project plan to influence or change these behaviours that can then be submitted to funders in the future.

NSERC Alliance Grants (Continuous Intake)

Deadline: January 01, 2021

Encourage university researchers to collaborate with partner organizations, which can be from the private, public or not-for-profit sectors. These grants support research projects led by strong, complementary, collaborative teams that will generate new knowledge and accelerate the application of research results to create benefits for Canada.

Alliance will be launched in a phased approach. As of Dec. 11, 2019, Option 1 will be open for applications requesting $20,000 to $1M annually from NSERC.

Natural Resources Canada - Green Jobs in Natural Resources

Through the Science and Technology Internship Program, this opportunity provides wage subsidies of up to 75% of the intern's salary, for youth between the ages of 15 and 30 to work in Green jobs in STEM?for 6-12 months.?

NSERC - Undergraduate Student Research Award

Deadline: March 01, 2021

Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA) are meant to stimulate your interest in research in the natural sciences and engineering. They are also meant to encourage you to undertake graduate studies and pursue a research career in these fields. The award provides funding for a?16 week research position with $4500.00 from NSERC and?the University (supervisors)?supplementing the amount of the award by at least 25% (or to meet minimum wage). Travel allowances may also be granted.

Application?s

Applicants must submit the NSERC application through the NSERC portal by the deadline.? Applicants, in addition to completing the NSERC application requirements, must also submit a one-page project summary and a letter of reference to the Office of Graduate Programs by the application deadline.? The project summary and the reference letter will accompany the NSERC application materials in the adjudication process.

1.???? Complete Form 202 Part I, which includes uploading official transcripts (from all post-secondary institutions attended).??

Please note:?Students must upload their own official transcripts to their application using NSERC's Online Services.? A legend is only required if transcripts are from outside of UNBC.? Students?must?retain hard copies of all official transcripts in case NSERC requests to see them at any time in the application process.? NSERC USRA applications must be prepared using the?NSERC Online Services?by selecting Login to the System or Register as a New User.

2.???? Once Form 202 Part I is completed, you must provide your reference number to your proposed supervisor to enable him or her to complete Part II.? Please ensure you leave enough time for your proposed supervisor to complete Form 202 Part II.

UNBC requires students to submit (by the March 2nd?application deadline) a one-page project summary (written by the student) and a letter of reference (from the project supervisor or other faculty member).? These can be submitted as harcopies to the Office of Graduate Programs or electronically to?grad-scholarships@unbc.ca.

International Student Research Award

UNBC International Student Research Awards (ISRA) is designed to support international?undergraduate?students who are interested in pursuing careers in research, by gaining research work experience in the natural sciences or engineering fields.?The award provides $4,500 to support a 16 week (May - August) full-time (35 hours per week) research position. The remaining funding to be provided by the research supervisor.
